A better basis for everyday food choices.
PlateRatio helps you look up food composition, compare actual amounts, and explore alternatives within a food category.
What we’re building
A nutrition table answers what is in one food. A useful comparison also explains how much food is being compared. PlateRatio lets you move between equal weight, source portions, equal calories, and equal protein, while keeping the underlying source record visible.
The site is an independently developed data product. It uses USDA FoodData Central snapshots and calculation rules documented in our methodology. It is not operated by USDA, FDA, or any food manufacturer.
Our approach
We keep manufacturer labels distinct from reference composition data. We preserve missing values, source dates, preparation descriptions, and product identifiers. Archived records remain distinguishable from complete recent label records.
Comparisons are calculated from the selected records. We do not assign a universal health score, invent nutrient values, or claim a change in a source record proves a recipe changed.
Who it is for
People looking up a food, comparing two familiar ingredients, or exploring protein, fiber, sugar, sodium, and calories in everyday choices. The site provides general food information and does not create an individual treatment plan.
Help improve the evidence
If a food record appears wrong, send us the page and the source identifier through contact and corrections. We can investigate a calculation or presentation error and point you to the original data.
